Gary McElhaney
A University of Texas Graduate, Gary McElhaney studied under sculptors Charles Umlauf and David Deming. McElhaney's portfolio includes bronze, marble and hydrostone cast sculptures. His first commission was a bronze portrait of San Antonio Spurs coach, Babe McCarthy. Other works include over 200 photorealist drawings, life drawings in graphite and color pencil portraits. His posters are especially prized today.
McElhaney's work has been exhibited in art galleries throughout the country. His figurative sculpture "Naked Cowboy" was exhibited at the National Sculpture Society's Centennial show in New York. He has taught figurative sculpture and life drawing at St. Edwards University, San Antonio Art Institute, Austin Community College, Austin Waldorf School and Elisabeth Ney Sculpture Conservatory.
His portfolio includes five bronze sculptures, and nine public and commemorative pieces. He’s worked extensively with UT Austin as a sculptor during the last decade, receiving six commissions.
