Dale Wilkins
Born a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, family job transfers led to school in Michigan and then life in Texas. Dale moved to Austin from Beaumont in 1969 and earned a BA in fine arts at UT. This paved the way to receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from The University of Texas at Austin. After working in several commercial offset and screen print shops doing prepress layout and art, he branched out into freelance commercial art. This led to employment in the advertising department of a folk art importing company.
He credits Jim Franklin as a major influence. Among Dale’s most memorable pieces was a 1978 JJ Cale poster for the Austin Opry House that Cale had adapted for his booking catalog.
His paintings of the areas around Corpus Christi have won numerous awards and are highly prized by collectors.
