Born in the back of a buick outside Spade, Texas, Harvey Young was destined for an interesting life. He picked up playing drums at a young age, and used them as his ticket to get out of West Texas as soon as possible. Once in Austin, he gave up percussion to learn guitar and better his songwriting. Harvey has played with several bands in several places, but settled in as lead singer and guitarist of Tex Thomas and Danglin’ Wanglers for the last 30 years and change.
- Armadillo Art SquadThe South Austin Popular Culture Center features the artwork of the infamous “Armadillo Art Squad” dating from the 1960s to today. These artists have garnered international acclaim for their influence upon rock art in the 1970s and the contemporary Austin culture. They continue to producer art in a variety of mediums, including the quintessential Austin art form, the poster. Old and new works by these celebrities will be displayed on a permanent basis along with periodic displays, including the numerous notable contemporary Austin artists.
