A University of Texas graduate, G.L. McElhaney studied under sculptors Charles Umlauf and David Deming. McElhaney’s portfolio includes bronze, marble and hydrostone cast sculptures. His first commission was a bronze portrait of San Antonio Spurs coach, Babe McCarthy.
His other work includes over 200 photo-realist drawings, life drawings in graphite and color pencil portraits. McElhaney’s work has been exhibited at art galleries throughout the country. His figurative sculpture “Naked Cowboy” was exhibited at the National Sculpture Society’s Centennial show in New York.
McElhaney has taught figurative sculpture and life drawing at San Antonio Art Institute, Austin Community College and Elisabet Ney Sculpture Conservatory.
He is currently working on a Texas wildlife series cast in bronze.
