SOUTH AUSTIN MUSEUM OF POPULAR CULTURE SALUTES SHIVA’S HEADBAND MARCH 25th
On the occasion of a “Shiva’s Headband Day” proclamation, the South Austin Museum of Popular Culture wishes to salute Shiva’s Headband. A special proclamation will be presented by David Murray from the City of Austin Music and Entertainment Division.
Widely regarded as Psychedelic Blues Rock pioneers, Austin-based group Shiva’s Headband celebrated their fifty year anniversary as a recording and performing group in 2017. They were the first Austin music act to have a major label record contract in 1969. Their groundbreaking Capitol Records LP, “Take Me to the Mountains”, was released to great critical acclaim in 1970.
Shiva’s Headband was the “house band” at the legendary 1960s Psychedelic Rock venue Vulcan Gas Company. They are also credited with playing a significant role in the founding of historical Austin based, world famous Armadillo World headquarters. They were the featured band for the grand opening.
Shiva’s Headband continue to record, perform and be influential to many musicians of all ages who followed them. Please join us in celebrating their achievements!
