AWHQ 43rd Anniversary August 7th
On Wednesday, August 7th, SouthPop will hold an Armadillo World Headquarters birthday party from 7:09pm to 10pm. Shiva’s Headband will provide live musical entertainment. The Center will display photos and posters from the ‘Dillo… like a bunch of the staff photos. Staff, musicians, friends and aficionados are all welcome to attend. The Burton Wilson exhibit is on display and includes images of many magical musical moments.
The image here is the winning design created by a group of UT students who were enrolled in an College of Communication class called Popular Culture in Advertising. SouthPop’s Executive Director Leea Mechling and Armadillo Artist Jim Franklin met a few times with the professor and her class of over 100 students and talked with them about Austin, the changing culture of the 60s and 70s and the art forms that emerged from that… and about the music poster scene and its evolution. As a result, the class spent their semester researching and meeting with SouthPop staff, including Board President Emma Little and Board Secretary Scout Stormcloud. The students broke up into groups and submitted designs for the poster for this very event. All the designs created will be displayed at the event on August 7th.
So, come on out, see old friends and make some new ones. Remember there is no parking at the Center, so please pull on over to Collier Street and then walk over to the Center.
